About me
María José has extensive experience, as a senior executive at the CNMV, in the fields of regulation and supervision of investment funds, investment firms, investor protection, and financial stability. She has served as Director of Supervision and Director of Investors and currently heads the areas of Resolution, Benchmarks and other fiancial stability issues.
María José co-chairs the FSB ReSG fmiCBCM on resolution of CCPs, serving an extended mandate.
She is also the Chair of the Review Team of the ongoing FSB Country Peer Review of Brazil on the regulation and supervision of investment funds, assessing, amongst others, the role of the regulator in the monitoring of leverage and liquidity management tools of investment funds and the role of the Brazilian SRO.
With broad international experience, María José has participated in and chaired several European and international groups and committees such as the IOSCO Committee on Investment Management (C5), the CESR (now ESMA) Intermediaries Sub-Group. Most recently, she chaired the European Council Working Group on the Review of the Benchmarks Regulation under the Spanish Presidency in H2 2023.
She is a member of the EBA and ESMA Resolution Committees, the ESMA Supervisory Policy Committee, the FSB Resolution Steering Group, and the EU Supervisory College of EURIBOR. Additionally, she chairs the Crisis Management Group and the Resolution College of the CCP established in Spain.
She is a regular lecturer and panellist, as well as a clinical professor of Financial Regulation in undergraduate and postgraduate courses. She has also authored and co-authored many academic articles and research papers.
She holds a degree in Economics in the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid and completed the General Management Programme (PDG) at IESE Business School – University of Navarra.
