About me
Martin Watkins is Chief Executive of Montis Group where he is building digital CSDs and applying for regulatory approval in Luxembourg to settle natively digital and non-native digital securities tokens using blockchain technology, alongside conventional equity and debt. Montis Group was founded and is majority-owned by Archax, the first ever FCA regulated digital securities exchange that also has FCA brokerage, custody, and crypto-asset permissions.
Prior to Montis, Martin was at Ernst & Young (EY) for 7 years where, as EMEIA Lead for Exchanges and Financial Market Infrastructures, he worked on multiple blockchain initiatives.
Before EY, Martin was a member of senior management at Euroclear in London and was elected Chairman of the Euroclear Group Operations Task Force focused on harmonising services. This followed several years in Paris as an Executive member of AtosEuronext, running all LCH.Clearnet SA IT services across Europe, clearing €1.7 Trillion of equity, fixed income, and derivative transactions per day.
Martin is a former Board member and Trustee of the Chartered Institute for Securities and Investment (CISI), where he was Founding Chairman of the International Regulations Forum and Chairman of the FinTech Forum. He is responsible for the group relationship and participation in the International Securities Services Association (ISSA).
Martin is a Chartered Honorary Fellow of CISI, a Fellow of BCS, the Chartered Institute for IT and a Fellow of the Institute of Directors. He sits on the Court of the Worshipful Company of International Bankers and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Information Technologists.
My organisation
Montis is a 3-year-old start-up preparing for Series A funding at the end of 2024. Based in London and Luxembourg, we are a team of infrastructure practitioners and technology innovators who have put our business reputations at stake and believe that all assets are moving on-chain, hence the regulated infrastructure needs to be ready for that moment.
Our Management Team come from incumbents, so we have seen the issues and are addressing market demand for tokenised securities.
We have applied for CSD authorisation in Luxembourg to settle natively digital securities tokens alongside traditional securities and are also applying for regulatory approval in jurisdictions outside of the European Union.
Montis is ahead of the curve and with all the largest financial institutions agreeing tokenisation is the future, we are perfectly placed to support the adoption and aggregation of digital securities with conventional securities.
Our DLT-based CSD systems are built for an MVP and additional functionality is being added.
Montis is a member of the European Central Bank’s ‘NWT-CG’
working group and seeks to support the accelerated tokenisation of financial markets globally.
